growthplan

My General Growth Plan:

  1. My educational growth plan is to increase my community presence. I will use what I have achieved to enrich my classroom and empower my students and Visual Arts and Design team members. I want to provide my students with real-life experiences. I will achieve this through making connections within the community and bringing them back to my classroom.

  2. My personal growth plan is to grow my practice as an artist and designer by creating artwork and exhibiting it. Through this I hope to achieve a positive mindset and a balanced lifestyle.

2021-2022 Specific Goals:

1) Leadership Goal: Community Presence

This is a part of my general growth plan that I have been working on developing since 2017. Each year, I try my best to continue this to grow as a leader who represents my department. I plan on doing this by showcasing what the Visual Arts and Design department does with our community and beyond. I plan on doing this by speaking at conferences about how we engage with the community, and also working with marketing to showcase this. I will also continue to work as a professional artist, as it helps me to network and make connections with the greater art community (and it is my passion). I would also like to empower my team, and would like to mentor staff about presenting what they do with the the community.

Progress evidence so far:

  • I presented at the 21CLHK Teachmeet Online about IPad Apps our students use for creating artwork

  • MY DP Students curated a Professional Artist Exhibtition

  • I Planned and hosted the DP Visual Arts Job-a-like for IB school in China at ISNS

  • I am organizing the DP Visual Arts Mock-Exhibition for DP Art student in Shenzhen. A membre of my department and I are guest teachers/artists as part of the panel.

  • I am presenting at the 21CLHK Online confernce about how our deparment worked with our tech integration team to create k-12 virtual exhibtitons for our school and parent community to view student work within our department.

  • I am working with Novalearn - this allows me to teach globally

  • I was a guest artist at Dongguan International School and I critiqued the exhibtion work of their DP Y2 Visual Arts students.

  • I guest lectured at Concordia University about Art Education and the community - ARTE 330 course

2) Department Goal: TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behaviour)

This has been something that my department has been working on for a while now. We do this very well in PYP and DP, but are slowly implementing it into the MYP/DP program more. Our goal is to develop this more this year in grade 6-8 through the studio project as a new unit, and to next year do this in both grade 9 and 10. Parts of this is creating more of a studio environment for students vs. having just a classrooms. Student are the artist and take more ownership over their learning. They are taught to think and work like an artist, with choice over what they create. We leverage the studio habits of mind for this. You can learn more by looking at the TAB Guiding Principles below.

Progress evidence so far:

  • This year, the exhibtion space became a studio environment for grade 10-12 students. This took me two year to propose and design with GA and Admin. Students were able to have thier own studio pace like real artists do.

  • I did a PD on TAB in July 2021 for high school. My department members also did this for primary and middle school

  • THE TAB Guiding Principles - My student did all of these in “What do Artists Do?” - Artists practice, Artists make art about things that matter to them, Artists work with ambiguity, Artists reflect, Artists build community through the DP program at ISNS.
