I'm an Artist, Educator and Arts Community Leader
Gloria Carnevale is an artist, designer, educator, curator and speaker who has lived and worked in Shenzhen since 2012. She is a founding member of ISZAF (International Shenzhen Artist Forum) and is currently the Co-Chair. Gloria works as the Head of Visual Arts and Design at the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen (ISNS).
Gloria’s body of work primarily consists of printmaking and photographic compositions, often combining the two to create a distinctive visual style. She begins her creative process by photographing her surroundings, then digitally manipulates the images to develop compositions that serve as the basis for her prints. Gloria frequently works with monoprinting, a technique where only one unique print is produced rather than an edition of multiples. Her works are often variations on a central concept, each similar in theme but intentionally different. She uses repetition as a tool to evoke particular emotions and to communicate her intended message.
Gloria’s work explores the concept of identity, which she understands as the unique qualities that distinguish an individual or object from others. She views identity as something that belongs to a person or group, shaped by relationships and the environment. Her artwork delves into these ideas, examining how external influences help define personal identity. Gloria incorporates both serious and satirical elements into her work and enjoys experimenting with bold colors, textures, and repetition to amplify the visual and conceptual impact of her pieces.
